You know that feeling of having a closet full of clothing, yet you seem to have a fight with yourself daily because you feel you have nothing to wear? Yup, me all day everyday. I also have that issue where I will wear something once or twice and just not wear it again. And recently, I have purchased items and still have not worn them! I don’t know what it is, but its a serious struggle of mine LOL. And that is why I need a clothing budget!
Now, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE shopping and do so often. But I’m a really cheap shopper. I don’t believe in needing to spend so much on a t-shirt. Because, lets be real – Many high end or pricey items can get ruined pretty easily. Not only that, but to keep it in good condition, most times you need to take that item to the dry cleaners every time it needs to be washed. Um… yea, no. I have no patience taking my clothing places to be cleaned. Plus, I am not spending more money than I need to.
Budgeting is big for me when I go shopping. When I do go, I always have a budget/amount I can spend in my head. I am always taking into account whats in the bank…because I HATE credit cards. I am the type to shop using only my debit card. If I have the money, I will buy stuff. If I don’t, I just don’t shop. I do not spend more then I can afford. But because I am a “cheap” shopper, that is why I shop often!
Also, when I go shopping, first thing I do is run to the SALE section. Anyone with me? Call me cheap, but you have to admit many items are just not worth the full price tags. Once I check out the sale section, then I’ll browse around the rest of the store in case something catches my eye. And if something is calling my name and on the pricier end, I always ask myself this one question – Am I going to regret walking out this store without this item? If so, I’ll go for the plunge and buy it. If not, then it means I don’t need it and don’t need to spend the money on it.
Lately, I have been enjoying more online shopping then physical shopping in stores. Thats because online has more to offer then brick and mortar stores. Plus, sometimes they have better sales or discounts that are only offered online. One of the online stores I enjoy shopping with is ASOS. I pay $19/year to get free 2 day shipping on any purchase. Plus, returns are free. So its seriously a win win and they carry many different brands!
So what tips can you take from me when it comes to shopping for clothes? Mainly, just make sure what you want to buy is actually worth your pennies. Make sure you will make use of the price you are paying. Ask yourself: Am I going to wear it often? Is this something I can pair with a lot of other clothing items? Because trust me, and we have all been there, but it is easy to get lost in the moment and just buy something later realizing it wasn’t worth it – even if it was only $10. So always think twice before spending!
Below are just the tips from above, but more to the point:
- Know what you can spend before heading out to the mall or shopping online.
- Don’t use credit cards -they rack up over time. Instead, use the money (like a debit card or cash) you have available that you won’t need to pay off later.
- Check out the Sale sections first!
- Try shopping online (and better if they have free returns) as they many times have more sales and extra discounts.
- Buy items you know you will make use of and not wear just once or twice.
- Buy items that can be paired with many different items you already have in your closet.
- Ask yourself if you will regret not buying that piece you want.
