Ok, ok. Striped shirts have always been in style… I think. But lately I’ve grown a liking to them a whole lot more. I used to NEVER look at them. Honestly, I don’t know why LOL! But as of now, I’m obsessed. Any shirt I see with stripes, I have to check it out! It’s like stripes made a comeback and became a popular fashion trend.
Now, I know many don’t like to wear stripes. Some feel it makes them look bigger, doesn’t flatter them and yada yada… But below I am going to share some tips on how to wear striped shirts! Try these little tips and let me know in the comments if it made you change your mind about wearing them!
Thin Stripes are the Jam:
For some, thinner stripes may be better then thicker stripes. Also, more pin stripe style tops may flatter one more who doesn’t like how they look in stripes in general. That’s though for you all who think they make you look wider. Read on to see the special surprise about this one concern of everyones at the end!
Don’t be Afraid to Add Color:
You heard right. Many times people think black and white when it comes to stripes. But nope y’all. Go colorful! In my book, the more color the better! Of course I love the chic black color for clothing, but sometimes color can do you good. Maybe more brighter color stripes will make you see them differently and change your mind!
Mix it Up:
When wearing striped shirts, don’t be afraid to add in some other prints for bottoms! Florals, polka dots, leopard, you name it. Think of stripes as being “neutral“. I personally think it looks great with everything. Adding in something else funky and fun can possibly change how you think you look in stripes.
Add a Jacket!:
So you feel stripes make you look wider? Add a jacket on top! Blazer, denim jacket, you name it! Even a vest! This helps show off more of your waistline when wearing a wider fit striped shirt, especially if it’s a more fitted jacket. But jackets can be worn on tight striped shirts too. That’s if you keep assuming you look bad in them LOL.
Wear a Tight Bottom:
If you’re one who doesn’t like wearing stripes because you feel it makes you look “wider”, try wearing a tighter bottom to show off your shape. It will just prove to you that what you see about being “wider” is an illusion LOL.
And just for the record, I Googled about stripes and making one look bigger. Well, guess what!? There is actually scientific proof that stripes do not, and I repeat, DO NOT make you look fatter. However, adding horizontal stripes to shapes like rectangles actually makes them look thinner. Y’all, it’s a phenomenon called Helmholtz illusion.
So you see? Don’t assume and think stripes don’t look good on you! Go for it! Anyone in my book looks good in stripes! Just find the right tops with stripes for your body type, as well as the right fit, the right style etc. You got this!
