I have seen Dermaplaning gadgets around for the longest time. All I could think of was “why would I shave my face?”
Little did I know how amazing it is as well as all the benefits that come along with doing it! I just had fears about hair regrowth – which will be discussed below.

What is Dermaplaning?
Truthfully, I didn’t even know myself!
Also called microplaning or blading, it’s a treatment that removes dead skin and hair (peach fuzz to be exact) with an exfoliating blade.
Basically, an at home treatment using a surgical blade which gently and safely exfoliates while removing hair and dead skin from our faces. Yup, you heard right!
Benefits of Dermaplaning
As some were stated above:
- Removes hair, aka peach fuzz
- Removes dead skin – the topmost layer which typically harbors dirt, oil, dead skin cells and peach fuzz.
- Exfoliates the skin
- Creates a better canvas for applying makeup
- Instantly brightens skin for a brighter and more glowing complexion
- Instantly creates smoother skin
- Allows skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin.

What You Need in order to do at Home Dermaplaning
You will want to have the following handy:
- A quality Dermaplaning tool. I have this one (use code THESTYLISHMOMMY for 25% off) from Hollywood Browzer and love it!
- A facial cleanser to remove any oils and dirt from your face prior to Dermaplaning.
- A hydrating serum or moisturizer
The Process of Dermaplaning
1. Start off by cleansing your skin. This is your first step. Cleanse as deeply as you can, even doing it twice.
2. Take your Dermaplaning tool (this is mine) in one hand while using the other hand to hold the skin taught/tight. Gently do feathery short strokes at a 45 degree angle starting from the cheeks and then to the jawline area.
3. After your cheeks and jawline are complete, move to the lip area, nose (not corners), chin and forehead. Keep in mind to not go back over the area you already did.
4. Once complete, lightly brush off excess dead skin / peach fuzz from your face and apply a hydrating moisturizer / serum you have from your daily skincare regimen.
This can be repeated every 3-4 days.
NOTE: If you have bad acne, sensitive skin, active eczema or other rashes, Dermaplaning is not advised.

Will Dermaplaning cause Peach Fuzz to come back thicker and darker?
Many worry that if they start Dermaplaning it will cause that peach fuzz they removed to come back darker, thicker and coarser.
This is a myth and of course, not true.
When Dermaplaning, you’re not changing the structure of the hair follicles. Hair follicles are deeper within the skin and Dermaplaning only removes the top layer of hair at the base.
In short, Dermaplaning will NOT cause any textural change when your hair grows back.
My Experience
I received from Hollywood Browzer their Dermaplaning tool. After a few weeks, I decided to give it a go. This one to be exact.

Not going to lie, I was nervous at first.
When I did it, it seemed quick and easy. I didn’t pay much attention the night I did it, but the next morning, I NOTICED A CHANGE!
I looked in the mirror upon waking up in the morning to brush my teeth and noticed my skin looked less textured as usual, clearer and brighter / glowing! And anyone who knows me, knows I deal with stubborn skin dullness. I literally felt like no makeup was needed!
I honestly am so happy I decided to jump on the at home Dermaplaning wagon because I’m HOOKED! I will definitely be continuing!
If you missed it above, the tool I used is easy to use and they have fun colors to chose from! click HERE to get one! And don’t forget! You get 20% off using code: THESTYLISHMOMMY
